Try as you may to take good care of your teeth, they may at some point become compromised due to poor oral habits, decay, or dental trauma. If your teeth become damaged by decay or traumatic injury, talk to your dentist about dental crown treatment. Dental crowns, also known as “caps” are a covering that can be placed over a damaged tooth/teeth to preserve their structure. Crowning a tooth keeps the root of the tooth intact, protects it from further decay and breakage and restores its usefulness. At Sterling Plaza Dentistry, Dr.Tom Alexander offers porcelain, tooth-colored crowns for teeth to our patients in the Irvine, California, and surrounding communities.
Dr. Alexander will start by assessing the damage to your tooth to determine if it can be repaired with a dental crown. If so, he will prepare your tooth for treatment by removing a small amount of tooth enamel to accommodate your crown. He will then take an impression of your tooth to send to a lab where a custom-fitted crown will be fabricated for you. In the meantime, Dr. Alexander will also fit your damaged tooth with a temporary crown to safeguard its structure while your permanent crown is being made. When your crown is ready, you will return to our office to have the temporary crown replaced by your permanent crown to complete your treatment.
